take a look at the lights, everything is red. My attention was brought to this genius by the chorus of horns down below. The person in white wanted to take a left, but was in the center lane. Traffic moving in that direction gets a green arrow which eventually turns red as the regular light turns green. Instead of going straight and doubling back, they just sat there blocking the lane. People were pissed. after the full red, they tried backing up but kept the wheel turned in the same direction so they basically went forward and back a few times in the same path.
Also this morning, in the miserable commute of stop and go traffic one guy made it just slightly more enjoyable. He was in a Volvo SUV and wanted to beat everyone else. Left lane center lane right lane center lane left lane center lane and on and on. At one point the left lane started flowing faster so he got over and it quickly came to a dead stop. As i passed him (at 5 mph) I looked over and he was furiously beating the steering wheel and screaming. It almost made the traffic enjoyable just to see his imploding.

I hate the people that are that determined to find the fastest lane every few seconds because they’re usually being unsafe, but I feel so much satisfaction when their attempts fail and they keep getting having to stop 5 seconds after getting into a new lane. It’s stop and go traffic, do you actually think that one lane will magically just open up for you?!

People who do this rarely see more than 2 cars ahead. Hey Genius, there is a semi truck in your lane 10 cars ahead and the stop light just turned red. Guess whose lane is going to move twice as fast now once the light turns green?

I did see a scenario like this caused by people aggressively going straight after the light turned red, blocking the left turning car in the intersection from being able to complete its left. A bit more assertiveness from the left turner would have helped as well.

I’ve been that driver before, but no longer. Just pick a lane and ride it out. I’ve seen many times where folks dart from lane to lane, and 10 miles later I’ll either pass them or be few cars back. Not worth the stress to keep changing lanes.

I usually pull behind the semi. They usually get up to speed faster than the 6-8 cars in the other lane all staring at their phones when the light changes.

Exactly. My wife isn’t quite that bad, but she hates that I have that, “pick a lane and ride it out” mentality. Then, when I point out all the same cars that we are still even with after however long, she just accepts it.

Only in stop and go traffic. At least for me. Much less stressful way to drive.

Yeah, if traffic is flowing, my mindset is...uh...
different
than stop and go.
